6 Lessons in 2019 that I Just Realized and Understood.

September 24, 2020

Often we are not mindful of our bodies, at one moment, our thoughts drift somewhere, about family, work, past mistakes, today's news, our future, the future of the earth, or the cruel conflicts we see on social media, we let this anxiety dominate the story. There are times when we need a pause.

During this time of the pandemic, I want to write what I think. Nothing more than just an outpouring of the heart. The lessons I took from the previous year, gave me time to reflect on things that had happened. Good or bad, everything is passed as it is. Here are 6 lessons for 2019.

  1. Enjoy the time that is given to us.

I felt this when I went camping with my college friends. At that time, I realized, this camping would not happen 2 times (although in the end, we camped 2 times). The point is, at that moment, I realized, I might never go camping with them again, in the same place with this same atmosphere that made me want to enjoy that moment. All I did was trying to relax in the tent, see the morning dew, and the beautiful blue sky.

  1. What you think does not necessarily happen

The things that continue to bother me during 2019 are things that haven't happened yet, a thought that I think exists when we are faced with a reality, where you are really confused, about whether the life you are living is according to your expectations (you get me right? :p).

  1. Everything must have away

After what I've passed in the last year, we are the ones who want to make life choices, but in the end, there is a power that directs us to other life choices, opportunity after opportunity, whether we realize it or not. Who knows our way of life, other than us who live and also the great power that rules fate and governs with whom we will meet.

  1. Try your best, then tawakkal.

Last year, I tried to make a goal, a goal that can move me, which makes me wake up every day with enthusiasm. Dreams of wanting to study abroad. Pursuing wholeheartedly, trying to divide oneself, between the new things being learned and also a transition period.

From there, I learned, it is our nature to try our best, prepare, and try our best. But after? Then do what is called surrendering. Can't get what you want? It's okay, next time we can try again. Don't get it now? Maybe next year, or the next year again or the next year again, again and again.

To the point where you realize, maybe it is not your way, but believe me, all the struggle will not be in vain, there is always every piece of the lesson that you have got.

  1. Everything will be alright

Or should you? The things that happen in life, it should be seen that way. Stuck while looking for a way out? Maybe you should take a break. Trying to loosen tangled threads. Everything will actually be fine until it is only in our own minds telling us that this will not be good.

  1. Practicing mindfulness

One of the things I do is step meditation, it makes me walk on my breath. This made me know myself. You can even do it by cleaning the room. Knowing ourselves, we can acknowledge our suffering and look for problems to the root. With mindfulness, you may find the same serenity.

Always remember, our way of life is certainly different from other people. We cannot compare what we have got, they got and it has reached the point where they got it. It is we ourselves who have to keep trying to improve ourselves which should be better than we were before.

Remember to always focus on yourself first my friends!

Kind regards,

Alya Lihan.
